Woman Sentenced For Intentionally Starting Two Fires While In Corning

A Corning woman has been sentenced for setting fire to her own home twice. In July of 2021, witnesses saw 64-year-old Rhonda Penrod leaving her home and shortly afterward, the place was on fire. Cal-Fire responded and extinguished the blaze, finding nobody there except a dog. When questioned Penrod admitted to starting the fire. She pled guilty and was given five years probation. Last October there was another fire on the same property that destroyed a travel trailer and about an acre of vegetation. Penrod again admitted to being responsible, and was still on probation from the previous fire. She’s been sentenced to 6 years 8 months in state prison.
