January is National Human Trafficking and Commercially and Sexually Exploited Children Prevention Month. The local organization Pathways to Hope for Children and the District Attorney’s Office want people to know some of the signs that a young person may be a victim of such abuse. They include unexplained injuries, and either not being in control of their money or having possessions they wouldn’t normally have. Homeless youth are particularly vulnerable, with 1 in 5 reporting being victims of abuse. The County Child Abuse Hotline is 225-5144. More information is at hopeshasta.org.
