The Shasta County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting Tuesday, during which they basically agreed with the Governor’s findings that homeless assistance programs are woefully inadequate to address what’s become a dire issue. Last week Governor Newsom threatened to withhold distribution of around a Billion Dollars worth of funding statewide. For Shasta County it represented Millions of Dollars. The Governor pointed out that under current local plans, homelessness would be reduced by only 2% in the next two years. He called that unacceptable, and the Board of Supervisors agreed. A guidance letter will be drafted to commit to more robust and ambitious action to address the growing need.
