Driver Killed In High Speed Crash In East Redding Early Wednesday

A driver of a sports sedan was killed Wednesday morning in a high speed crash on Hartnell Avenue, according to Redding Police. Police say that at around 1:47AM a 2014 Dodge Charger was headed eastbound on Hartnell Avenue near Parkview Avenue. When the vehicle approached the sweeping turn near Shotwick Trail, the car left the roadway and crashed into a street sign, a metal pole, a chain fence, and a tree before coming to rest on its roof. The car caught fire and the unidentified driver was trapped. A security guard arrived shortly after the crash, and was able to extinguish the fire. Rescue personnel attempted to free the unconscious driver from the wreckage, but the driver was declared deceased at the scene. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
