The Redding Rancheria, which operates Win River Resort and Casino, is asking for the City of Redding to restore land it sold to a private group to return it to public ownership according to recent court filings, saying there is no legal basis for any of the city’s approvals or actions to remain in place. A judge ruled in May that the sale of the city land off of South Bonnyview, and Bechelli Lane violates state law and city policy. The tribe is hoping to build a casino on property it owns there. In it’s filing dated June 17th, the Rancheria also asked that any adverse changes to the property be prohibited until the city complies with California Environmental Quality Act rules. The city is taking exception with a ruling that it pay the legal fees of the Rancheria, saying the court should further look into the matter. The land sale, the court found, was done quickly and out of the public eye. A lawsuit was filed in July of 2020.
