Officers Deploy K9 After Driver Intentionally Rams Police Vehicle

A woman led officers on a slow speed chase overnight before ramming a patrol car, according to Redding Police. Just after Midnight an RPD Officer on Hartnell Avenue near Churn Creek Road saw a Chrysler Pacifica with no headlights. The car almost hit another car before almost colliding with the raised center median. The officer tried to stop the Chrysler but the driver would not yield to the lights and siren, but continued to drive at 30 to 40 miles an hour. She stopped at the intersection with Cypress Avenue until the light turned green and then, with the lights and siren still behind her, continued across to Hemsted. After turning onto Bechelli she stopped in the middle of the road. As officers tried to talk to her another officer pulled his patrol car in front of the Chrysler. She then accelerated and rammed the police car. She continued to ignore officers’ commands so they sent Otto the K9 into the car with her. After a struggle the driver, identified as 34-year-old Ashley Guthrie, was taken into custody. After a stop at a hospital for dog bites on her shoulder, Guthrie was booked into jail.
