RPD: Officers Subdue Man Who Attacked Motel Employees Early Tuesday

A large intoxicated man caused havoc at a Redding hotel early Tuesday morning, according to police. Officers were called at 2:05AM by the desk clerk of the Bridgeway Inn and Suites on Bechelli Lane, who had locked herself in the office. 49-year-old James Kilcrease had reportedly forced his way into one of the motel rooms and attacked the man and woman inside. Fortunately they had a hammer, which they used to defend themselves and struck Kilrease with it. That slowed him down but he then bit the man before fleeing with the hammer. He was then confronted by arriving officers. They tried to calm him down but he reportedly threw the hammer at them and missed. He was eventually convinced to surrender and was booked into jail for assault with a deadly weapon and other charges.
