RPD: K9 Helps Officers Arrest Intoxicated Driver After Chase In Downtown Redding

A man went on a dangerous and destructive drunken drive through Downtown Redding Thursday afternoon, according to police. At 2:05PM a city employee flagged down an RPD Officer because the driver of a Dodge Charger was driving on the lawn at the softball fields off Parkview Avenue. The officer contacted the driver, 38-year-old John Dvorak, who appeared to be drunk. Dvorek then fled and the officer started chasing him but then stopped because of the danger. Dvorak reportedly fled up California Street going the wrong way and was involved in a crash on Placer Street before driving into the Magnolia Street neighborhood. A CHP helicopter was used to help find the Charger. Dvorak reportedly fled again, but in a dramatic finish to the incident, Chase the K9 leaped into the passenger side window of the Charger and apprehended Dvorak. After a hospital visit, he was booked into jail on multiple charges.
