Council Will Discuss Funding For Update To Riverfront Specific Plan

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Redding City Council will discuss a decision they made at their last meeting to delay the process of privatizing the auditorium and rodeo grounds. They instead voted to hire a consultant to complete a riverfront specific plan for the area. That vote led a developers group to withdraw their ambitious plans to build something different there. The money for the consultant will draw $750,000 from a $4 Million set-aside for city-wide broadband and another Half Million from the $3 Million South City Park Fund. The last riverfront specific plan was done in 1990 and amended in 1992. The new one would include an updated environmental study, which a local coalition of environmentalist groups had said they would sue to demand before any new development broke ground.
