A Shasta Lake City man has had a public defender appointed for his murder trial. 59-year-old Dwight Honeycutt is accused in the shooting death of 26-year-old Robert Eladio Gonzalez at Honeycutt’s home on Pancake Hill in Shasta Lake City. Honeycutt had reportedly caught Gonzalez in his home and was angered by Gonzalez making advances toward Honeycutt’s girlfriend. Honeycutt is a registered sex offender. The public defender was assigned earlier this month and his bail was set at a Million Dollars. Last week Honeycutt entered not guilty pleas. Thursday he’ll have a plea disposition and a preliminary hearing is set for next Tuesday.
