HHSA Will Offer Free Training To Help People Respond To Mental Health Crises

Shasta County Health and Human Services is offering training classes in “Mental Health First Aid”. There’s no charge for the courses. The idea is to teach ordinary, non-medically-trained people how to identify, understand and respond to someone experiencing a mental health, substance use or suicidal crisis. The response to such crises can be quite different whether the person is an adult or a youth, and there are two different training sessions to reflect that. The training for adults who live or work with youth is next Wednesday the 20th from 8:30AM to 3:30PM. The one to recognize signs for adults is May 4th. Training will take place at the Shasta College Health Sciences Building on Market Street in Downtown Redding. To sign up, call Marcia at 440-6033.
