No Action Taken Against Health Officer During Closed Session

Shasta County Public Health Officer Doctor Karen Ramstrom still has a job. A closed session item on Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors agenda entitled “public employee dismissal” was assumed by many to refer to Dr. Ramstrom, who received much of the local blame for state-imposed mask and vaccination mandates during the pandemic. She even received threats of violence, although the only business the county ever took action against was Waterworks Park, which was told that they’re pool permit might be revoked if they stayed open. Many supporters of Ramstrom showed up Tuesday to argue against her dismissal. After 3 hours behind closed doors, no action was taken. Ramstrom had received a previous closed-door performance evaluation, and so has County Counsel Robin Cruse and County Executive Officer Matt Pontes.
