Supervisors May Vote To Terminate Shasta County’s Public Health Officer

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors may be preparing to fire Public Health Officer Doctor Karen Ramstrom. She received much of the blame for state-imposed mask and vaccination mandates during the pandemic. The rancor against her became heated enough that Redding Police provided extra protection for Ramstrom at her home. At the March 15th board meeting, some of Ramstrom’s detractors spoke up against her, but they were outnumbered by her supporters, who provided impassioned testimony of her integrity and qualifications. A closed session item on Tuesday’s agenda is “Public employee dismissal”, which presumably refers to Doctor Ramstrom. The new board majority of Les Baugh, Patrick Jones and Tim Garman are likely to vote for her termination.
