Man Charged With Murder Pleads Not Guilty On Friday

An accused murderer made a court appearance Friday. 58-year-old Steven Schlapia is charged with first degree murder with special circumstances for the March 16th shooting death of 47-year-old Jimmy Wade Schwerdt outside Schlapia’s home off Bear Mountain Road. During a manhunt following the killing, Schlapia was found about a mile south of his home on Portero Drive. On Friday he entered a not guilty plea and his $1 Million Dollars bail was changed to no bail. He’ll be back in court April 25th when a preliminary hearing date is set.
