Legislation Will Close Loophole In “Revenge Porn” Law

A proposed state law that would expand the definition of “revenge porn” has it’s roots in Shasta County. SB 1081 would remove a loophole in the wording of the original legislation that allowed a Shasta County man to legally drive around town with pictures of his unclothed ex-girlfriend stuck on the side of his truck. Technically, that was apparently legal, so Deputy District Attorney Megan Holtman worked to rewrite the law, which was introduced by State Senator Susan Rubio and will be heard by the Public Safety Committee on March 29th. As Holtman says, “The personal and professional consequences for the victim will last much longer than the offender’s hurt feelings.”
