RPD Officers Pull Man From Burning Vehicle After Short Pursuit In North Redding

A Redding man crashed while being chased, and left his passenger behind in the burning car, according to the RPD. 37-year-old Joshua Blackwood was stopped around 10:30PM Saturday night. When officers learned he had felony arrest warrants Blackwood reportedly sped away and crashed through a fence. The car overturned down an embankment between Twin View Boulevard and Highway 273, then caught fire. Police say Blackburn ran into a nearby greenbelt while his passenger, 32-year-old Justin Barnes, was trapped in the car as the flames grew. RPD Officers Lensing and Dalby extricated Barnes and pulled him to safety. He was taken to Mercy Hospital with serious injuries. Blackwood was found in the brush and booked for several serious felonies in addition to his warrants.
