School Officials Plan Countywide Training Exercise On Preventing Violence

Heading off a tragic situation before it happens is extremely challenging in a freedom-loving society, and the same challenge applies to keeping schools safe. School officials from all over Shasta County will participate in a one-day training exercise on Monday at the County Office of Education Facility on Innsbruck Drive in Redding. Those who attend will be trained in school behavioral threat assessment to prevent and reduce targeted violence in school from Kindergarten to high schools. Some of the topics will include assessing threats made through social media, and dealing with such threats if they’re determined to be credible. The training is the result of the “Shasta Safer Schools Coalition”, a think tank established by the Office of Education to bring together school officials, law enforcement, fire and other first responders and the DA’s Office to promote the safety and well-being of the county’s school children.
