RPD: Man Rescued After Fleeing Burning Vehicle

A high speed chase by Redding Police ended with the suspect vehicle engulfed in flames Sunday night. At 9:16PM, an RPD Officer saw a BMW speeding on Redbank Road and he turned around to try and pull the car over, but saw that the car had already collided with a cement barrier at the dead end of the road, and was fully involved in fire. Officers approached the car to see if the driver was trapped but saw that the drivers seat was empty. Redding Fire Department extinguished the fire, which had spread to surrounding vegetation. CHP Air Operations was called to help search for the driver, and they spotted 27-year-old Brandon Culmer, the car’s owner, in tall grass along the bank of Clear Creek about 30 feet down an embankment. Officers climbed down and found Culmer injured and in a state of shock. Redding Fire personnel used a rope rescue to bring back to the top and he was transported to Mercy Hospital. RPD says he’ll face a hit-and-run charge after he’s released from the hospital
