19 Children Injured When SUV Crashes Into Preschool In Anderson

Nineteen young children and one adult were injured when a small SUV smashed into a preschool in Anderson Thursday afternoon. At 2:26PM a Suzuki Grand Vitara ended up completely inside Great Adventures Preschool and Daycare, a brick building at the corner of Balls Ferry Road and Martha Street. Anderson Police Chief Jon Poletski says at least two children were trapped under the vehicle. Fourteen of the injured children and one daycare worker were taken by ambulance to area hospitals, including Mercy, Shasta Regional and Saint Elizabeth. Another five children were taken by private vehicles. There were no fatalities, and most of the children were taken for precautionary reasons. Chief Poletski says the Vitara contained two occupants, who were not injured. The female driver was not impaired, according to the APD drug recognition expert. It’s not know how fast the vehicle was traveling. Responding agencies included Anderson Fire, Cal-Fire, multiple ambulances, Anderson Police, the Sheriff’s Department, Redding Police, the CHP, and the DA’s Office Victim’s Assistance.
