Parole Hearing May Lead To Early Release Of Man Who Kept Red Bluff Woman Locked In A Box

A Red Bluff man who kept a woman locked in a box nearly every day for 7 years could be released on parole. In 1984 Colleen Stan escaped from Cameron Hooker, who had been raping her, torturing her and holding her in a wooden box since 1977. After a change in venue for the trial to San Mateo County, he was sentenced to 104 years in prison but sentencing reform laws have made it possible for hooker to be paroled. A hearing in San Mateo that’s been delayed several times will take place Tuesday and possibly Wednesday as well. The hearing could prompt a trial that would have Hooker declared a sexually violent predator, making it easier to keep him behind bars.
