New COVID-19 Infections Drop Although Transmission Remains High In Shasta County

The number of new Coronavirus cases around the world fell 21% in the last week, marking the third consecutive week COVID-19 cases have dropped. The number of new deaths fell 8% to about 67,000 worldwide, the first time that deaths have fallen since early January. Shasta County is still reporting a high a case rate of 221 per 100,000 people. Another 122 new cases were confirmed over the weekend to bring the current known number to 365, along with an unknown number of unreported cases.
