3 Men Hospitalized For Overdosing On Fentanyl At Butte County Jail

There’s been another Fentanyl scare at the Butte County Jail. Saturday afternoon three inmates were found unconscious, and another was exhibiting signs of an overdose. The life-saving drug Narcan was used on the men and they were hospitalized before returning to jail. Fentanyl is highly concentrated and therefore easy to smuggle. On January 6th four other inmates were hospitalized after suffering Fentantyl overdoses in a medium-security housing unit of the jail. In that case, a 35-year-old recently arrived inmate was accused of hiding the drugs in his anal cavity when he turned himself in an outstanding warrant for property crimes. Incoming jail inmates are searched, but body cavity searches are only legal with a court order and assistance from medical professionals.
