Resolution To Change County Personnel Rules Fails To Pass

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors was unable to come to a decision about mask and vaccine requirements for county employees Tuesday because of the absence of Leonard Moty. Even though his recall has been confirmed, it has not been officially certified. County Registrar of Voters Cathy Darling-Allen says the results will be presented to the board on March 1st, and until then Moty is still a board member. Tuesday’s agenda item called for a resolution amending county personnel rules to reflect changes made at the state level concerning mask and vaccine mandates imposed on various county employees. The county is required by state law to comply with the rules, but Supervisor Patrick Jones suggested that the county sue the state over the issue. County Counsel Robin Cruse said the state could impose costly OSHA fines on the county. The vote was split 2 to 2 so the item did not pass. Moty is in Washington D.C. attending a national association of counties conference.
