DA Issues Warning As Fake COVID-19 Testing Sites Pop Up Across The Country

A decent scam artist would never let an opportunity to steal money go by, and the pandemic provides plenty of opportunity. The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office has issued a warning about the possibility of fake Covid testing sites. Unverified sites pose as legitimate companies and health care clinics but after getting payment, they might fail to provide test results. The likely intention is to collect personal identifiable information in order to commit fraud. Many of the scammers establish websites that look identical to sites belonging to well-known trusted organizations or government agencies. Shasta County Health and Human Services has a list of verified Covid testing sites at shastaready.org. Free at-home test kits can be ordered from the Federal Government at covidtests.gov or by calling 1-800-232-0233.
