Woman Killed In Tragic I-5 Chain Reaction

Names have been released from a fatal chain reaction crash north of Red Bluff Friday evening. At around 5 o’clock 76-year-old Sharon Sharpe of Red Bluff, with a 3-year-old male passenger, was stopped behind traffic backed up on Interstate 5 near Wilcox Road when their Honda was rear-ended by a Jeep driven by 38-year-old Jaime Chavez of Red Bluff. That pushed the Honda into a Ford occupied by Andrew and Kristina Mefford, and ignited a fire that covered part of the Honda. The Ford then crashed into a Toyota. Sharpe died of injuries suffered in the collisions, according to the CHP. Her 3-year-old passenger had minor injuries, as did Chavez and the Meffords.
