The Delta Variant of COVID-19 is more contagious than the original virus, and also far deadlier, as shown by Shasta County’s numbers. Another five deaths have been reported from Tuesday. They were a man in his 50s, 2 men in their 70s and a man and woman in their 80s. another 102 new cases were reported as well. There are 441 people known to be carrying the virus, 62 of them in the hospital and 18 in the ICU. Vaccinated people can still spread the virus, but for a shorter amount of time, and they’re very unlikely to get very ill themselves. Older people or those with underlying medical conditions are encouraged to get a third Pfizer of Moderna shot. The flu shot is also recommended for everyone. A free drive-through flu shot clinic will be held this Saturday from 10AM to 2PM at Public Health on Breslauer Way. Information on Covid testing and vaccinations can be found at shastaready.org.
