COVID-19 Case Rate Drops, But Deaths Rise In Shasta County

Two more Shasta County residents have died from COVID-19. They were a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s. The daily case rate is dropping from the extreme levels seen in recent weeks. Another 79 cases were reported from Monday. There are 508 people known to be carrying the virus, 63 of them in the hospital and 19 in the ICU. Shasta County Public Health says the Delta Variant is about twice as contagious as the original COVID-19. Vaccinated people can still spread the virus, but for a shorter amount of time, and they’re very unlikely to get very ill themselves. Officials are encouraging people to get the flu shot along with the Covid vaccine. A free drive-through flu shot clinic will be held this Saturday from 10AM to 2PM at Public Health on Breslauer Way.
