Tanker Truck Crashes On Highway 299 Spilling Diesel Fuel

Drivers had significant delays on Highway 299 at the bottom of Oregon Mountain Summit west of Weaverville Monday. At 9:38AM a fully loaded tanker truck from SST Oil in Redding hit the embankment and rolled over onto its side. Apparently diesel fuel was running down a roadside ditch unabated for some time as it gushed from the 7500 gallon tank. While a Hazmat team was responding, someone used a loader to to dam off the ditch and apparently prevented the diesel from reaching any waterways. The driver was transported with minor injuries. Traffic was flowing at around Noon, but another closure was required between 3PM and 4PM to retrieve the truck.
