Dixie Fire Remains 94% Contained

California’s largest fire of the year remains 94% contained. No growth has been reported on the Dixie Fire for several days and the fire remains at 963,276 acres. Increased fire activity was reported over the weekend in the Bogard Buttes area to the south of Highway 44, but all of the active fire remained within the containment lines. Crews are expecting red flag fire conditions across parts of the massive fire, and recently fallen needle cast has the potential to re-burn in the remaining hotspots on the the interior of the fire. Unburned islands of fuel in Lassen National Park and Prospect Peak areas will continue to burn within the existing fire perimeter. Firefighters will continue to mop up hot spots and strengthen the un-contained line on the northern portion of the fire. Crews will patrol and secure contained lines and mop up any remaining pockets of heat near the fire’s perimeter. PG&E equipment is believed to be responsible for starting the fire July 13th.
