Growth Slows On McFarland Fire, Monument Fire Still Threatens Over 8,000 Homes

The Monument Fire grew by a few thousand acres Monday, now 171,000 acres and 29% contained. Evacuation orders have been reduced to warnings in more areas, but orders still remain for parts of Hayfork, Hawkins Bar and Denny. Many repopulated areas remain under evacuation warnings. More than 8,000 homes are still threatened by the Monument Fire. 21 structures, along with 29 minor structures, have been destroyed. 6 firefighters have been injured. Highway 299 is open to through traffic with a pilot car about every 3 hours between 7AM and 7PM.

There’s been minimal activity on the McFarland Fire, other than smoldering well within the perimeter, and it’s mostly in mop up and patrol status. The McFarland burned 122,700 acres in three counties, and is 95% contained. At least 24 homes and 22 other structures have been destroyed. All evacuations have been lifted.
