Long Eyesight of the Law Nabs Washington Man

Red Bluff Police intercepted a murder suspect from Washington state. 38-year-old Michael Mathwig was wanted for questioning in the death of his ex-girlfriend in Bremerton, Washington and it was believed that he was headed south to escape. At 3:30 Monday afternoon, an automated license plate reader detected Mathwig’s car in Red Bluff. Officers searched for the car and Monday evening they found it in the Wal-Mart parking lot. They waited for Mathwig to come out of the store and he was taken into custody as he was starting to drive away. Extradition proceedings are underway to send him back to Washington.
