Winds Push Dixie Fire To Over 600,000 Acres

Winds have expanded all the big Northstate fires, prompting new evacuation orders. Red flag conditions affected the Dixie Fire with 31 mile an hour gusts and 12% humidity. The Dixie now covers 604,500 acres. Containment remains at 31%. Close to 700 homes are confirmed destroyed, along with hundreds of commercial and other structures. All Butte County evacuation orders, and some in Plumas County, have been reduced to warnings, but vast areas remain under mandatory evacuation as the fire pushes further into Lassen National Park on the western flank and toward Susanville on the eastern flank. All Tehama County evacuation orders remain in effect. 3 firefighters have been injured. There are nearly 6,000 personnel working the Dixie Fire. It started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
