Over A Half-Million Acres Burned In The Month Since Dixie Fire Was Sparked In Butte County

The Dixie Fire has burned more than 515,756 acres. Containment has improved slightly to 31%. At least 600 homes are confirmed destroyed, along with hundreds of commercial and other structures. Thunder cells were rumbling over the fire area Thursday, but apparently no new lightning fires started. All Butte County evacuation orders, and some in Plumas County, have been reduced to warnings, but vast areas remain under mandatory evacuation. The head of the fire was threatening Westwood Thursday, as well as areas around Lake Almanor. As the fire moves further into Lassen County, incident command has been moved to Susanville. 3 firefighters have been injured. There are more than 6,000 personnel working the Dixie Fire. It started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
