Entire Town Of Chester Evacuated As Dixie Fire Grows By Over 20,000 Acres

The 274,139 acre Dixie Fire is 35% contained. Fire activity is still extreme. Tuesday it threatened to run around both sides of Lake Almanor, forcing the evacuation of the entire Town of Chester and many other areas. Vast areas are still under evacuation orders, now including the Colby Creek area of Eastern Tehama County. On Tuesday evacuations affected around 15,000 people. At least 45 structures have been destroyed, along with 22 minor structures. More than 12,100 are threatened. Crews have been fighting hard to protect Greenville. In areas where direct line is very difficult, it’s being backed up by contingency line. The Dixie Fire started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
