Council Approves Funding For New High Speed Internet Project

The Redding City Council has approved funding for phase one of a broadband project. At first the 1000 megabyte per second service will only connect to city owned facilities.Future connections could be made to schools, medical facilities and state or federal agencies, but in order to bring speeds that fast to homeowners a utility similar to the REU would need to be formed by a two-thirds vote of the people and would cost an estimated $150 to $200 Million.
