Woman Killed By Locomotive In South Redding

A woman was struck and killed by a locomotive in South Redding Thursday. The unidentified woman was apparently walking on the tracks near Highway 273 and Girvan Road just before 1 O’clock. Police say the conductor sounded the train horn and tried to brake, but couldn’t stop in time. The locomotive was not pulling any freight at the time and witnesses say the woman was walking northbound on the tracks when she was struck from behind.
