A home was destroyed by fire very early Wednesday morning in Southwest Redding in an area beyond the reach of the city’s system of fire hydrants. At around 2AM, Redding Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire off the end of Kenyon Drive. They found a double wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames. The three resident and two dogs escaped unharmed. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the surrounding brush and trees, but the home was a total loss, valued at $100,000 plus another $20,000 worth of contents. There were no hydrants within reach of hoses, so the department’s 3000 gallon water tender was used.
