Pimping Case Puts Spotlight On Anonymous Social Media Platform

Shasta County prosecutors say a local pimping case shows how important it is that people be aware of the potential dangers of some social media apps. 24-year-old Zachary Taylor contacted a 17-year-old girl through an app called “Whisper”, an anonymous social media platform. Taylor met with the girl and encouraged her to be a prostitute. He took photos and helped her set up an online profile, then arranged dates for her in which he would drive her places to have sex for money, of which he kept a significant cut. Taylor also rented a hotel room where multiple men came and met the girl for sex. Taylor’s victimizing of the girl all happened last year between October 1st and November 5th, at which time she was made safe by Redding Police as they investigated Taylor. On Friday he pled guilty to human trafficking of a minor and was sentenced to 5 years in state prison.
