Highway 96 Closed Near Happy Camp Due To Massive Slide

Highway 96 in Siskiyou County is blocked by a massive volume of dirt and rocks. The slide about 4 miles west of Happy Camp has had the highway reduced to one lane for about a month. On Thursday morning more material slid down the mountainside, completely blocking both directions. Cal-Trans estimates that more than 30,000 cubic yards of material will need to be cleared before it will be passable. There’s no estimated time for reopening and no reasonable detour.
