An elderly woman was killed in a house fire on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Redding Fire Department. Firefighters were called to a fourplex on Milo Avenue at about 2:15PM. Crews were able to get the flames under control in about 15 minutes, but found the body of a woman inside a bedroom of one of the apartments. Investigators believe the woman was smoking in her bed when the fire started. The woman’s pet cat and bird also perished in the fire. Damage is estimated at about $350,000.
