Corning Police Arrest Alleged Home Intruder

A Corning man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly vandalizing a home while trying to get inside. A little before 11:30PM, Flor Cea called Corning Police to her home on Edith Avenue, saying a man had thrown a rock through the front window and was still trying to gain entry. When officers got there and went inside, all 8 members of the family ran into the front yard, saying the intruder was inside. As officers searched inside and in the back yard, the family started yelling that the man was walking past the home on the street. He then started running, and was chased onto Rio Grande Court. He was boxed in, but apparently continued to resist officers until he was tazed. Juan Manuel Mendez Velazquez was booked into jail.
