Spike Strip Ends High Speed Pursuit On I-5

A high speed chase Friday night began when a driver almost collided with a sheriff’s deputy’s patrol car. It happened at around 9 O’clock on Highway 273 north of Lake Boulevard. The deputy then tried to pull over the 4 door Chevy but a chase led onto Caterpillar Road. The deputy saw something being thrown out the window that burst when it hit the pavement. It allegedly turned out to be a large amount of Methamphetamine. The chase continued to Oasis Road, then Lake Boulevard and through Shasta Lake City and onto Southbound Interstate 5 with reckless driving at more than 100 miles an hour. A records check showed the car belonged to 37-year-old Gregory Michael Cooley, a wanted parolee. A CHP helicopter continued to follow the car down I-5 until a spike strip stopped it near South Bonnyview, ending the 21 mile pursuit. Cooley was booked into jail on multiple charges.
