Inmates Harvest Over 10K In Produce From County Farm

It’s unusual to hear law enforcement bragging about the efforts of convicts, but the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Alternative Custody Program has been reaping the benefits of hard work. The program allows offenders to work off their sentences to avoid jail time. In July they were pleased to announce surpassing their goal of growing 2,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables at the county farm off Eastside Road and Breslauer Way. Now they’ve far exceeded that by harvesting more than 10,000 pounds of produce. The food is used to help feed inmates at Shasta County Jail.
