Hazardous Air Quality Sends Anderson High Students To Distance Learning

Excessively smoky conditions have prompted Anderson Union High School District, which includes West Valley High, to move all their instruction to distance learning starting Friday. All the district’s classes will be online until further notice. There are no large fires burning in Shasta County, but air monitors have shown the air to be unhealthy for days on end. It’s recommended that people limit their time outside and wear a “HEPA” mask if available. The Shasta County Air Quality Management District cautions that bandannas and most paper masks that help prevent the spread of germs do nothing to filter the fine particulates contained in smoke. Also, Redding Fire Department is recommending frequent changing of air conditioner filters during these smoky days.
