Anglers Warned To Be Careful What They Snag

Bombs have been caught by anglers in the Sacramento River. Sunday afternoon a man called Tehama County Sheriff’s dispatch to report that he was fishing at the mouth of Battle Creek, known as the “Barge Hole”, when he reeled in what looked like a pipe bomb. The Tehama Sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit was responding when another call was received from a different fisherman reporting that he, too, had reeled in what looked like a pipe bomb. When the boating deputy arrived he agreed and called the Shasta County Bomb Squad. They confirmed that the devices were, in fact, live bombs and they were detonated on site. Anyone fishing in that area of the river should be wary of what they hook.
