Two people were killed in an airplane crash near Benton Airpark. The crash happened about 10 minutes before 7 O’clock Thursday morning as the single engine Beechcraft Bonanza was taking off. It went down in a canyon area just to the north of the runway across Placer Street, and sparked a 2 acre brush fire. The plane apparently had 4 people aboard. A Redding Fire Battalion Chief at scene said two victims were badly burned and the other two were killed.
