A Redding Police Officer was injured in a crash in East Redding Saturday morning. Shortly after 7:30AM, 41-year-old Amanda Velasquez of Burney was eastbound on Hartnell Avenue and reportedly failed to stop for the stopsign at Airport Road. Her Honda HRV collided with a southbound Chevy 2500 pickup driven by 49-year-old Eddie Gilmette, an off-duty RPD Officer. The pickup left the road and went down an embankment, trapping Gilmette. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and airbags deployed. Both were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police say Velasquez had a small amount of Methamphetamine and admitted to using it recently. She was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, causing injury.
