Police Capture Domestic Violence Suspect After Chase

A chase by Red Bluff Police early Friday morning ended with the suspect taking shelter in a stranger’s home. At around 1:30AM dispatchers got a 9-1-1 hang up call from a unit at the Vista Ridge Apartments. That particular apartment had ongoing domestic violence issues involving 30-year-old James Johnson, so multiple officers headed over to check it out. As officers were arriving in the area they saw Johnson’s red Honda leaving the apartments so they tried to make a traffic stop. The Honda fled at up to 80 miles an hour on Luther Road, running stop signs and a red light, then on Baker Road at 85 miles an hour. After traveling down Plymire Road the Honda driver led the chase onto a dead-end street, then ran into a house to hide. The house was occupied but the residents did not know their surprise visitor. Johnson was found and arrested. Nobody was hurt. A gun was found in the street that police say Johnson had discarded during the chase.
