Former Trinity County District Attorney Donna Daly is being remembered by the Shasta County D.A.’s Office as a fierce advocate for crime victims. The 63-year-old Daly was one of two people killed in a fiery crash on Highway 299 near the Shasta/Trinity County line Friday afternoon. She was driving an eastbound Toyota Camry a little east of Buckhorn Summit coming down the hill when she crossed over the center line on a curve and collided head-on with a westbound Ford pickup driven by 67-year-old Terry Hitchcock of Anderson. Daly and Hitchcock both died. Daly spent 30 years as a prosecutor in Northern California, aggressively putting away violent felons, including child molesters, rapists and murderers. She successfully prosecuted three death penalty cases, including the murder of a police officer in the line of duty. She worked in Trinity, Tehama and Glenn Counties, but the majority of her career was spent in the Shasta County D.A.’s Office. A funeral mass will be held for Donna Daly Friday at Noon at Saint Joseph Church in Redding.
