New Program Alerts Teachers To Students In Trauma

Children going through problems at home often have a hard time not bringing those problems to school, but sometimes a little understanding can go a long way. A new program called Focusing On Children Under Stress, or FOCUS, allows police and other first responders to open lines of communication with school personnel, so they know if a kid needs some extra patience and understanding due to trauma experienced at home. Whether it be domestic violence, fire, a death in the family, or any other traumatic event, children are not likely to freely disclose the situation to teachers or any other adult with whom they come into contact, so the FOCUS program allows a little compassion to be shown to a kid going through hard times.
